Saving one song is easy. Saving forty and still being able to find them a month later is a different problem, and it is the one this guide is about.

Every file arrives named download.mp3. Save several without renaming and your browser starts appending numbers — download(1).mp3, download(2).mp3 — and within an afternoon you have a folder nobody can navigate.
Worse, none of them carry ID3 tags, so a music player has nothing to sort by. Everything lands under Unknown Artist in one undifferentiated pile, in whatever order the filesystem happens to return.
The fix is not complicated, but it has to happen as you go. Retro-fitting tags onto forty anonymous files means listening to each one to work out what it is. Renaming at the moment of download takes five seconds and you already know what the track is.
Rename each file at the save dialog, before it lands. The scheme that holds up best is Artist - Title.mp3.
Put the artist first and your file manager groups an artist's tracks together automatically, with no tagging required at all. Sorting by filename becomes sorting by artist, which is most of what you wanted from a library in the first place.
Avoid characters that Windows rejects in filenames — : / \ ? * " < > | — because a save that silently fails is worse than one that errors. For Arabic titles, note that mixing Arabic and Latin in one filename renders unpredictably in some players; picking one script per file avoids the surprise.
Filenames get you sorting. Tags get you everything else: album grouping, artwork, artist pages, and shuffle that behaves sensibly.
Any music manager will write tags — MusicBrainz Picard, Mp3tag on Windows, or the track info panel in your player. Point it at the folder, fill in artist and title, and it writes the metadata into the files themselves so it travels with them to any device.
Do it in one sitting once you have twenty or thirty files rather than after each download. Tagging is dull in small doses and fast in bulk, because most of the fields repeat across an album.
Artwork is optional and usually not worth chasing. It makes the library look nicer and does nothing else.
Full albums are often uploaded to YouTube as a single continuous video with a tracklist in the description. Those are the hardest thing to collect properly, for two reasons.
First, the 30-minute limit. Most albums run longer and are rejected before conversion starts. There is no way around this — it is a cost guard, not a setting.
Second, even when an album fits, you get one file containing every track. Splitting it means finding the boundaries by ear or from the description timestamps, then cutting it in an audio editor. That is real work for a poor result.
Where an album exists as individual videos, take them one at a time and tag them with the same album name — your player will reassemble them into an album on its own. Pace the downloads: the limit of 20 requests per minute is easy to hit when working through a tracklist quickly.
A library built this way is a convenience archive. The audio is a compressed copy of what YouTube published, which was already compressed on upload. On phone speakers or in a car it is fine. On good headphones, against a streaming service, the difference is audible.
So this approach earns its place for things genuinely not available elsewhere — regional music, live recordings, uploads from artists without distribution, old material nobody has licensed. For catalogue music that any service carries, a subscription gives you better files and does not need tagging.
And the obvious point: a personal offline collection is one thing, redistributing it is another. The second is a copyright issue no matter how the files were made.
