Which Facebook links actually resolve

Facebook has accumulated several URL shapes over the years, and they do not all behave the same.

Usually fine: permalinks to public video posts, /watch/ URLs, public Reels, and video posts on public Pages. Pages are the most reliable source of all, because Page content is public by default.

Usually not: anything from a personal profile with restricted visibility, posts limited to friends, private group content, and Stories. If opening the link in a private browsing window shows you a login wall, this tool sees the same wall.

Why Facebook fails more than the others

Facebook and Instagram actively block requests coming from datacentre IP ranges — the address space every server on the internet lives in. That is a deliberate anti-automation measure on their side, not a bug on ours.

Requests for these two platforms are therefore routed through a residential proxy so they arrive looking like ordinary home traffic. That works, but it adds a hop, which means Facebook links resolve more slowly and fail more often than TikTok or YouTube links.

What to do when it fails: wait a moment and paste again. A large share of failures are transient and clear on the second attempt. If a link fails repeatedly, check it in a private browsing window — more often than not the post is not as public as it appeared while you were logged in.

Reading the quality list

Facebook typically publishes two or three renditions of a video: roughly an SD and an HD version, sometimes a third in between. That is far fewer options than YouTube offers, so expect a short list — eight is the maximum shown, but Facebook rarely gets close.

The Best quality (auto) button takes the best stream at 1080p or below and merges it with the best audio into a single MP4. For Facebook that is nearly always the right choice, because the alternatives are few and the top rendition is usually well under the ceiling anyway.
