Paste a link to a public story and this page resolves it before it expires, then offers it as a download.

Stories differ from every other content type here in one decisive way: they are on a clock. Everything below follows from that.

The 24-hour clock is absolute

A story is published to disappear. Twenty-four hours after posting, the platform stops serving it publicly — and at that point the link stops resolving here too, because there is nothing left at the other end to fetch.

This is not a limitation that can be engineered around. Once the platform withdraws the file, no tool retrieves it; anything claiming to recover expired stories is describing something it cannot do.

The practical rule: if you want a story, get it the same day. A link saved and used tomorrow will fail, and the failure is the story being gone rather than anything wrong with the link.

Highlights are different. When someone saves a story into a highlight on their profile, it stops expiring. Highlight links keep resolving indefinitely, so those are worth grabbing at leisure.

Public accounts only, and what that rules out

Only stories from public accounts resolve. Stories from private accounts, and the "close friends" ring that a subset of followers sees, are unreachable — reaching them would require being logged in as an approved follower, and this tool has no login step by design.

That design choice is deliberate rather than a gap waiting to be filled. A tool that logs in on your behalf puts your account at risk of being banned, and a tool that logs in as someone else is doing something worse.

So if a story link fails and the account is private, that is the tool working as intended. The check that settles it: open the link in a private browsing window. If you cannot see the story there, neither can this page.

Expect this one to be temperamental

Stories are the least reliable content type on the site, for two compounding reasons.

First, story URLs are short-lived and change shape more often than ordinary post links, so extraction breaks more frequently and gets repaired on the backend rather than by anything you can do.

Second, stories live mainly on Instagram, which actively blocks datacentre traffic. Those requests are routed through a residential proxy, which adds latency and another opportunity to fail.

Retrying once or twice after a short pause resolves a good share of failures. If it keeps failing on a link you can see publicly, the extractor is likely broken for that URL shape — which is a backend fix, and worth trying again later that day.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a story from yesterday?

No. Stories are withdrawn by the platform after 24 hours, and once withdrawn there is nothing to fetch. Only highlights persist.

What about stories saved as highlights?

Those work indefinitely, because a highlight is a story the account holder chose to keep published on their profile.

Does it work on private accounts?

No. That would require a logged-in approved follower, and this tool has no login step by design.

Can I get a close friends story?

No. Those are restricted to a list the account holder controls and are not publicly addressable.

Will the account know I saved it?

Nothing is sent to the account, since this fetches the publicly served file. Whether the platform separately logs a view is between you and the platform.

It failed but the story is definitely public.

Story URLs change shape often and extraction breaks periodically. Retry after a pause, and again later that day if it persists.
