Profile pictures are a special case — they are small by design, and understanding why saves you expecting something the platform never stored.

Why profile pictures are small everywhere

A profile picture is displayed as a circle roughly 40 to 150 pixels across, in a list, next to a comment, on a story ring. Platforms optimise for exactly that: the picture is stored at a size suited to being tiny and frequently loaded, not to being viewed full-screen.

So even when someone uploads a high-resolution portrait, what the platform publishes is a heavily reduced copy. This is a storage and bandwidth decision on their side, made across billions of avatars.

What this means for you: expect a usable square image, not a portrait you can print. If a result looks soft when you open it full-screen, that is the file the platform serves — not a failure of the download.

Link the profile, not a post

Paste the URL of the profile page itself — the address you land on when you tap someone's name or handle. A link to one of their posts will return that post's image instead of their avatar, because the preview image on a post page is the post.

The account must be public. A private profile shows a login or follow wall to anyone not already approved, and this tool sees the same wall — there is no credential step and none is planned.

Some platforms hide even the avatar on private accounts, and others still show it. Which of the two you hit is the platform's choice, not something this page controls.

Worth thinking about before you save

A profile picture is usually a photograph of a person, and that makes it different in kind from a video someone published for an audience.

Saving an avatar to identify a contact, to check whether an account is impersonating someone, or to keep your own picture when you have lost the original are all ordinary reasons people end up here.

Reusing someone's face to build a fake account, or reposting a personal photo publicly without asking, is not, and in many places it carries real legal weight rather than just being rude. The tool cannot tell the difference — you can.
